Other Development Opportunities

Departmental Faculty Development Funds
Each department has a professional development/travel fund for each faculty member. This money can be used for travel or other professional development activities. Apply to the department chair.

Faculty Professional Advancement Grant (Sept 15, Dec 15, Mar 15, May 15)
Supplements departmental funds in support of activities that assist faculty members in advancing professionally. Provides funds for travel to conferences in order to present papers or to serve on panels as well as for publication costs. Limited to a total of $600 per year per faculty member. Apply to the Dean of the College.

Pedagogical Development
Supports faculty attendance at conferences and workshops related to pedagogy. Proposals for other teaching-related support are also welcome, pending availability of resources. Click here for an application or contact Gail Steehler with questions.

Academic Special Requests
Supports faculty professional activities for which funding is otherwise not available. Apply to the Dean of the College.

Faith and Learning Dinners
A series of four dinner lectures in which a faculty or staff member discusses personal views on faith and learning. Sponsored by The Center for Religion and Society, the funds of the Jordan-Trexler professorship, and the Dean of the College.

International Cluster
A series of speakers and discussions on international topics.

Departmental Seminars
Many departments host regular or occasional speakers on topics of disciplinary interest.

Information Technology Workshops
Occasional workshops offered by the Information Technology department to introduce faculty and staff to new technological tools. Chocolate is served.

External Programs
Roanoke College has sponsored faculty to participate in a number of external development programs, including Leadership Roanoke Valley, Harvard's Institute for Educational Management, and Project Kaleidoscope.
