Arts
George and Eliza Howard Foundation: awards fellowships for independent projects in the fields of visual arts, media studies, and the history of art and architecture. Stipends for one year are $25,000.

MacDowell Colony – Residencies for Writers, Composers, and Artists: Funding is available to artists of all type for residencies at the colony. Located in Peterborough, New Hampshire.

National Gallery of Art: Applications will be considered for study in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, prints and drawings, film, photography, decorative arts, industrial design, and other arts) of any geographical area and of any period. The visiting senior fellowships are for those who have held a Ph.D. for at least five years. There are also two month and sixty day visiting senior fellowships.

Vermont Studio Center: offers over 50 Full Fellowships a year, which are open to all artists and writers. To apply for a VSC Fellowship, based on merit, for 4 weeks at no fee, submit your application for the jury reviews VSC holds 3 times a year.

Virginia Center for the Creative Arts: The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts is a working retreat for writers, visual artists, and composers. It is located at Mt. San Angelo, a 450 acre estate in Amherst County, Virginia, approximately 160 miles southwest of Washington D.C. The VCCA provides residential Fellowships of two weeks to two months in a rural setting where artists may work, free from the distractions and responsibilities of day-to-day life.

Humanities
American Academy in Berlin: offers independent study in Berlin for an academic semester or, in very rare cases, for an entire academic year. Benefits include a stipend ranging from $3,500 to $5,000 per month of residency, round-trip airfare, and a generous apartment with partial board at the Hans Arnhold Center, a historic lakeside villa in the Wannsee district of Berlin.

American Antiquarian Society: offers three broad categories of visiting research fellowships, with tenures ranging from one to twelve months. All of the fellowships are designed to enable scholars, advanced graduate students, and others to spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research in the AAS library on their projects and discussing their work with others.

American Council of Learned Societies: supports scholarship in the humanities and humanities-related social sciences.

American Institute of Indian Studies: provides fellowships for the advancement of knowledge and understanding of India, its people, and culture. For Senior Research Fellowships award periods range from 6 to 9 months. For Senior Short-Term Fellowships the award period is up to four months.

American Philosophical Society: offers fellowship programs in a wide range of fields. Short-term residential Library Fellowships are offered. Sabbatical Fellowships are provided to mid-career faculty.

Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library: provides short-term fellowships to support visiting scholars pursuing research in its collection of rare books and manuscripts in the humanities. The fellowships pay for travel costs to and from New Haven and living allowance. Fellowships, normally granted for one month, must be taken up between September 1 and May 31.

John Carter Brown Library: invited scholars to conduct research in the fields of the colonial history of the Americas, North and South, including all aspects of the European, African, and Native American involvement. The program offers short-term fellowships for periods of two to four months with a stipend of $1,800 per month and long-term fellowships for periods of five to nine months with a stipend of $4,000 per month.

Cornell University Society for the Humanities Fellowships: While in residence at Cornell, postdoctoral fellows hold department affiliation and have limited teaching duties and the opportunity for scholarly work. Deadline: October
Frederick Douglass Institute Fellowship Program at the University of Rochester: offers postdoctoral fellowship to scholars in a field related to the African-American experience. The program provides its Fellows an opportunity to teach two courses (one per semester) in his or her area of specialization.

English Language Fellow Program: promotes English language learning around the world, and fosters mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and people of other countries. The Fellow Program is administered by Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED). German Historical Institute: The GHI awards short-term fellowships of one to six months to German and American doctoral students as well as post-doctoral scholars/Habilitanden in the fields of German history, the history of German-American relations, and the role of Germany and the USA in international relations. Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the university of Texas: offers fellowships that support scholarly research projects in all areas of the humanities and offers stipends of $1,000-3,000 per month.

Howard Foundation: awards fellowships for independent projects in the fields of visual arts, media studies, and the history of art and architecture. Stipends for one year are $30,000.

Indiana University: The Lilly Library invites applications for visiting fellowships for research in residence in its collections. Its holdings support research in British, French, and American literature and history; the literature of voyages and exploration, specifically the European expansion in the Americas ; early printing, and the Church, children's literature, music; film, radio and television; medicine, science, and architecture; and food and drink.

Institute of American Cultures: offers four fellowships that focus on conducting and theorizing oral history research in African American, American Indian, Asian American, and Chicano communities. The fellowship includes a stipend that ranges from $32,000 to $35,000 in research support, and health benefits. Appointments are for a 9-month period beginning on October 1.

John F. Kennedy Library Foundation: Grant applications are evaluated on the basis of expected utilization of available holdings of the Library, the degree to which they address research needs in Kennedy period studies, and the qualifications of applicants.

Kluge Center Fellowships: Located in the Library of Congress, Kluge Center invites visiting scholars and post-doctorial Fellows to conduct humanistic and social science research using the Library of Congress.

David Larson Fellowship at the John W. Kluge Center: invites qualified scholars to apply for a fellowship in the field of health and spirituality. The fellowship is tenable for a period from 6 to 12 months, at a stipend of $4,200 per month, for residential research at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Library Company of Philadelphia's Program in Early American Economy and Society: offers postdoctoral research fellowship. A stipend of $40,000 is tenable for nine consecutive months of residency. It may also be divided between two scholars, who would each receive $20,000.

Mary Baker Eddy Library in Boston: provides fellowships to scholars for research in the fields of women's history, spirituality and health, religious studies, 19th-century history, and journalism. Research fellows are awarded in the amount of $700 per scholar week.

National Endowment for the Humanities: Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the general public's understanding of the humanities.

National Humanities Center: offers 40 residential fellowships for advanced study in all fields of the humanities. Applicants with an interest in the impact of recent scientific research on the human attributes of autonomy, singularity, and creativity are encouraged to apply. Individual fellowships are also available in the following fields: art history or visual culture, French history or culture, Asian Studies, theology, American art history, and environmental history.

Newberry Library – Fellowship in the Humanities: Offers long and short term fellowships in numerous areas of the humanities.

Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program: enables democracy activists, practitioners, scholars, and journalists from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy. Located in Washington , D.C. , Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program maintain full residence at the International Forum for Democratic Studies for periods ranging from three to ten months. Each fellow receives a monthly stipend for living expenses, plus health insurance and reimbursement for travel to and from Washington , D.C.

Stanford Humanities Center: offers external fellowships to faculty from universities in the United States and other countries. External fellows come from all ranks of the professoriate and from a wide variety of colleges and universities.

Virginia Foundation for the Humanities Fellowship Program: Offers a fellowship to those in the humanities field or independent studies of humanities. Advanced degrees are not required. Fellows are awarded up to $15,000 a semester and can be awarded for 1 semester or a full academic year.

Dianne Woest Fellowship: Offers a fellowship to study humanities in New Orleans at the Williams Research Center and other research centers in the New Orleans area. A stipend of $4000/month is awarded.

Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars: Provides residential fellowship in Washington, D.C. for 9 months for the research and study of humanities and social science. Fellows also work with policy-makers and Wilson Center staff.

Woodson Institute for Afro-American and African Studies at the University of Virginia : invites scholars working in the humanities and social sciences to apply for postdoctoral (one-year) fellowships. These residential fellowships are designed to facilitate the completion of manuscripts in African American and African Studies and related fields.

W. F. Albright Institute of Archeological research: the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalim offers fellowships and provides base for a broad range of American-led scholarly research projects concerning Near-Eastern studies, from the prehistoric to the early Islamic periods.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation: welcomes highly qualified, foreign scientists and scholars of all nationalities, who hold doctorates awarded within the past 12 years, to carry out research projects of their own choice in Germany . Multidisciplinary
Jefferson Science Fellows: tenured academic scientists and engineers from U.S. institutions of higher learning are eligible for selection to be Jefferson Science Fellows. Each Fellow will spend one year at the U.S. Department of State for an on-site assignment in Washington, D.C. that may also involve extended stays at U.S. foreign embassies and/or missions. A stipend of $50,000 is intended to offset the costs of temporary living quarters in the Washington, D.C.

American Sociological Association: The Sydney S. Spivack Program in Applied Social Research and Social Policy ASA Congressional Fellowship brings a PhD-level sociologist to Washington, DC, to work as a staff member on a congressional committee or in a congressional office, or as a member of a congressional agency (e.g., the General Accounting Office).
