Undergraduate Research Assistant Program (URAP)

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT PROGRAM

PURPOSE & SCOPE:

The program allows faculty members to select highly qualified freshmen to assist them in their research. The college provides the students with $2,000 assistantships, which may be renewed for up to four years given the faculty sponsor's approval and the availability of college resources.

Proposals should be approximately two pages long. They must include the following:

(1) A description of the research project, including its goals and a time line.

(2) Explanation and rationale for the student role in the project

a) What will the student do?
b) How will the student's participation be good for the project?
c) What is the educational benefit to the student?
d) How will the student's participation evolve over time?

(3) Number of students desired. (Note: The likelihood of getting more than one student is dependent on the number of faculty proposals approved).

(4) Information for the web page that is written in language appropriate for a general audience. Please see the URAP website for examples: URAP Descriptions 

a) Short autobiography (see "mentors" on above website)
b) Short description (3-4 lines) of the project (see "projects")

Full-time tenure-track faculty, three-year contract faculty and full-time Teaching Associates
