The following writing workshops, playshops, and grammar crammers are all part of our repertoire.  If you see something on this list that is not the current semester's calendar, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate you.  New workshops are added periodically, so check back to see what's new!

I Have a WHAT Due WHEN?  Beating Writer's Block
Your professor assigns a paper, and your mind blanks.  Your writing muse abandons you, leaving you scrambling at 4 am to finish that paper due at 8:30 am.  Just the thought of writing brings on a panic attack.  We'll be discussing some invention and time management strategies for avoiding the above scenarios.

Write Right: Quoting and Citing Sources                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Working on a paper that involves research? This interactive presentation deals with effective uses of quotation, ethical paraphrase, and summary, including basic citation guidelines that apply across disciplines.

Principles of Science Writing
Got lab reports? Tackling a scientific literature review? Learn basic principles of science writing, such as the structure of lab reports, the purposes of an abstract, and the uses of passive voice.

Proofread: You Might Have Something Out   Um, did we leave a word out in the out in the title?                                                                                                                                                                                                                              You can't depend on the spell checker to catch all your mistakes.  Careful editing is key to earning (and keeping) the reader's respect.  This workshop will offer techniques for fast and effective proofreading.

A review of APA formatting and citing techniques, and information on resources for working with APA format.

Writing Under Pressure: Strategies for Essay Exams
Participants discuss strategies for writing successful short-answer and longer essays in timed situations, analyze sample questions, and have the opportunity to practice writing a response and get feedback on their work.

All work and no play makes writing a dull task indeed. Playshops are interactive hours of word games and language play. Bring your creative streak and your sense of humor!
