Senior Week

Over the years, Senior Week has become a tradition for Roanoke College seniors. During the week leading up to Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Roanoke College and the College's President, Mike Maxey, hold different events and activities for the seniors.

Wine & Cheese Reception

The Wine and Cheese Reception is a formal event hosted by the Alumni Association for seniors only. Seniors dress in a coat/tie or dress formal attire. The reception takes place before the Senior Recognition Dinner. Valid IDs are required due to the availability of alcoholic beverages. This reception is held to reward and congratulate the seniors on a job well done.

Senior Recognition Dinner

Roanoke College caters the annual Senior Recognition Dinner in honor of the class. This dinner is a nice event requiring formal attire of coat and tie or dress. A special guest speaker is invited to address the seniors.

Senior Picnic

Every year, the seniors get together and have a picnic in honor of the finale of the Senior Class Campaign. Seniors bring chairs, blankets and games out to the back quad or Sutton Terrace and enjoy burgers and hot dogs. Cold beverages and alcoholic drinks are provided as well. Seniors must bring their IDs. This event is only for seniors so they can enjoy one of their last days together. Seniors are encouraged to bring memorabilia to put in their class's time capsule.

Wood Burning

Wood burning, also known as name carving, has become one of the most popular activities during Senior Week. Each year at the Senior Dinner at the President's House, students carve their names somewhere in the basement on the bookcases, doors or door frames.

Senior Dinner at President's House

Right before the Commencement Ceremony, Roanoke's president invites all seniors to attend a dinner at the President's House. Roanoke's chefs prepare a gourmet meal while encouraging the seniors to assist them. It's a fun, relaxing dinner with food and refreshments on the back patio, roof top and throughout the President's House.

Following Baccalaureate, the President hosts a reception for the graduates and their families. This is a final opportunity for the parents and students to say farewell to our president.

Celebration Luncheon

Following the Commencement ceremony, a light lunch is offered on the Back Quad. Graduates and their families have an opportunity to meet one another and to say farewell to the Roanoke's faculty and staff.
