Leslie Murrill is an associate professor of education at Roanoke College, where she has taught since 1992. She has served as co-director of the Margaret Sue Copenhaver Institute since its beginning. Over the course of her tenure at Roanoke, she has taught courses in reading and language arts, diagnostic reading, special education, classroom management, middle school methods and reading in the content areas. Dr. Murrill began her teaching career as a fifth-grade classroom teacher in Temple Hills, Md., and later taught Title I Reading in Lafayette, Ind. She received her M.Ed. from Purdue University in 1991 and her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 1998. Murrill has authored articles and book reviews in The Education Forum, Virginia English Bulletin, Reading in Virginia, and the SRATE Journal, and she has published a book chapter. She has presented at venues such as the National Reading Conference, the National Teaching Academy, the Kappa Delta Pi Convocation, the International Children's Literature Association, the National Staff Development Council and the American Educational Research Association. Her current research focuses on elementary reading instruction, and the role of professional development as a source of growth and renewal across the teaching career continuum.
Tim Reynolds is an associate professor, chair of the Education Department at Roanoke College and co-director of the Margaret Sue Copenhaver Institute for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Reynolds's dissertation, written at the University of Virginia, is titled, Transforming Teacher Practice: A Socio-cultural Process of Change and Learning. The research, under the guidance of Dr. Carol Tomlinson and Dr. Ronald Comfort, focused on how teachers learn to differentiate instruction for students. At UVa, Reynolds worked as a research assistant at the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented. In 1997 and 1998, he served as the program director for the University of Virginia's Summer Institute on Academic Diversity. He has published with Views & Vision, SRATE Journal, The Education Forum and Journal for the Education of the Gifted. He has presented his work at the Kappa Delta Pi Convocation, American Association of College Teacher Educators and the Conference of the Association of Lutheran College Faculties. His current research is on teacher learning. From 1994-1996, Reynolds served as professor of education at Wesleyan College in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He has taught as a public school teacher with the U.S. Department of Defense Dependent Schools (Vilseck, Germany), Munich International School in Germany, and in Virginia with Roanoke City Public Schools. He is available for consultation on differentiated instruction and cooperative learning.
