Biometric Screening Registration

  • All Roanoke College Faculty and Staff who are benefits-eligible may participate in the wellness program.  Spouses and same-sex domestic partners may participate if they are currently enrolled in our health insurance plans.  Participation is voluntary and free!
  • The biometric screening and the health risk appraisal form have been streamlined.  At your screening appointment, you will get immediate results and the health risk appraisal form will be completed separately on a later date.
  • Registration for the screenings is now open!  Please visit the link below to register for a time that best fits your schedule.

What if I am Unable to Attend the Onsite Health Screening?

  • If you can't attend an onsite Health Screening, you may visit your primary care doctor and submit the Physician Form
  • Please note that your PCP visit must take place any time between January 1, 2014 - December 31, 2014

Biometric Screening Details and How to Prepare

  • Your blood will be collected by means of a finger stick, and the blood will be immediately analyzed. The analysis will include:  Total cholesterol, HDL ("good") cholesterol, LDL (bad") cholesterol, HDL to Total Cholesterol Ratio, Triglycerides and Glucose. Your health screener will also compute your body mass index and take your blood pressure. The results of your blood screening will be immediately available, and your health screener will briefly discuss your results and any recommendations for risk reduction that may be appropriate. Depending upon your results, the examiner may refer you to your doctor for further follow-up.
  • Participants should fast for 8-9 hours prior to their screening for the most accurate results. Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration. Black coffee is permitted (no cream or sugar, as these could impact blood sugar). 

Wellness Incentive

If you are enrolled in the Roanoke College health insurance plans and participate in the wellness program, you can earn an incentive!  The first quarterly incentive will be granted based on participation in the biometric screening.  The remaining incentive requirements will be developed in conjunction with the wellness team and our health coach and announced on a quarterly basis.  We are hopeful that this will encourage continued participation in the program throughout the year and allow new hires to participate as well.  Incentives are paid quarterly on the last pay period of each quarter.
