Your First Year
The first year of college is full of new experiences. We've developed programs to help you understand what will be expected of you as a student and explore your options outside the classroom.

Move In Day TipsMove in day will be a little crazy no matter what. But we've put together a few tips to help you get through it as smoothly as possible. |
Who Will Be Your Roommate? This is a popular question, especially since this is probably the first time you'll be sharing a room with anyone. Your roommate will be selected based on a questionnaire you fill out in regard to your interests and lifestyles, and the automated matching process we use. |
Things to Bring to CollegeEverybody knows you need to bring clothes, towels and sheets with you to college, but how about things like a first aid kit or cups and plates? We've put together a complete list of everything you'll need to bring with you. |
Summer Reading ProjectYour first assignment at Roanoke College will actually be due before your first day of class. Each year, we assign a book for incoming freshmen to read before orientation. After you finish the book, you'll be expected to write a 2-3 page paper, build a website or create an art project that related to the story. Those projects are then presented to other students at orientation. |
R House Habitat for Humanity ProjectR House is a project that Roanoke College has made a part of orientation. In conjunction with the Roanoke Valley Habitat chapter, our incoming freshman classes build a house on campus each summer that is then turned over to a deserving family and moved to a permanent location. R House is an excellent way for students to begin building connections to the community and with each other. For more information, visit the Center for Community Service Web site |
