Dr. Jeffrey Sandborg
Dr. Jeffrey Sandborg holds The Naomi Brandon and George Emery Wade Professorship in Music at Roanoke College where he has been Director of Choral Activities since 1985 and in that time the ensemble's reputation has become widely respected. For 13 years, Sandborg directed the Roanoke Valley Choral Society (later the Roanoke Symphony Chorus). His conducting credits with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra include Verdi's Requiem, Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor, and Handel's Messiah. He also has led the Roanoke Valley Choral Society and Orchestra in performances of Vaughan Williams' Hodie and Bach's Mass in B Minor.
Sandborg remains active as a clinician, adjudicator and choral scholar. His instructional video, which focuses on the fundamentals of singing, Make a Joyful and Beautiful Noise! (Hinshaw: hinshawmusic.com) has been used as a teaching resource throughout North America and abroad. He is the author of English Ways: Interviews with English Choral Conductors and is the composer of many compositions for choir.
Sandborg earned the B.A. from Knox College (Illinois), the M.M. in Voice and the D.M.A. in Choral Conducting and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
