About Campus Safety

The Office of Campus Safety was established in July 1980 to provide the highest level of professional law enforcement and 24-hour security services to the campus community. Located in Bowman Hall, Campus Safety provides a broad range of services. Any accidents, criminal offenses or security problems need to be reported immediately.

The Campus Safety officers at Roanoke College are sworn Conservators of the Peace and have arrest authority on College property.

Campus Safety Mission Statement

The Office of Campus Safety supports the college mission by providing a safe, secure, and orderly campus environment where students can pursue their education and in which faculty and staff can teach and work.  We pursue this goal through the protection of life, property, and individual freedoms, the preservation of peace and order and the prevention of crime. Each day we work to achieve our goals by providing efficient support services, campus patrol utilizing community policing practices, mentoring and educating students we contact, professional and ethical investigations, effective emergency and crisis response and employing well trained, courteous officers and staff.

Staff

Twelve full time employees at the office of Campus Safety and a number of part time
student workers provide a 24 hour a day / 7 day a week operation. Staff consists of a
Director, Associate Director, Campus Safety Officers (8), Administrative Coordinator,
Communications Coordinator, and Student Employees (Dispatchers and Administrative)

 

In the event of a Tornado:
