2012-13 Leadership Awards
Outstanding Organization of the Year
2012-13 Recipient - Hillel
The Outstanding Organization Award is given to organizations that have most exemplified the college mission through their programs and services. Specific contributions through fostering personal and professional excellence, forming ethical and informed leaders, and impacting the Roanoke College community as a whole are considered. Applications are reviewed by the Student Government Association to determine which student organizations have made significant contributions to the development of a positive campus culture through the activities they sponsor and the manner in which the organization members conduct their work.
Outstanding Officer of the Year
2012-13 Recipient - Tamara Smith, Alpha Kappa Psi
The recipient of this award will have exemplified good leadership throughout their term as an officer of a student organization at Roanoke. They will have made significant contributions to strengthen their organization and/or will have impacted the members of the organization in a positive manner.
Outstanding Advisor of the Year
2012-13 Recipient - Andrea Sexton, Catholic Campus Ministry
Faculty and staff advisers nominated for this award should have demonstrated a significant impact on their organization. Academic Advisors are not eligible to receive this award, only advisors of recognized student organizations. Professional staff members of the Student Affairs Division are not eligible for this award.
Outstanding Emerging Leader of the Year
2012-13 Recipient - Shawn Perkins, Pi Kappa Phi
This award is for an organization member who may not necessarily hold an official leadership role within the organization, but has stepped up and contributed greatly to the group. This person could be a freshman or could be a senior that is finally letting his/her voice be heard. Regardless of the person's age or role within the organization, this is a person that will be doing great things in the future.
Educational Program of the Year
The program that receives this award will be an educational program sponsored by a student organization that encouraged students to continue their learning outside of the classroom. The topics of this program can vary from academic, to awareness, to social justice, to risk management, and beyond-the important thing is that students were able to learn something from it.
Service Program of the Year
2012-13 Recipient - Raising the Net, National Society of Leadership & Success
Programs nominated for this award should demonstrate a significant impact on campus or in the community in matters of attendance, funds donated, creativity, uniqueness, promotion, special production requirements, or student involvement. Student organizations or individuals should produce these programs. Programs sponsored by academic or administrative offices are not eligible for this award.
Social Program of the Year
2012-13 Recipient - Holiday Party, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Hillel, Black Student Association, & Asian Student Union
The program that receives this award will be a social program sponsored by a student organization that encouraged students to interact positively with their peers and community.
RC Engage Award
2012-13 Recipient - Habitat for Humanity
This award is given to the organization that best utilizes RC Engage to further the mission of the organization throughout the year.
Outstanding New Staff Member Award
The Outstanding New Staff Member Award is presented to a new staff member for exceptional accomplishment within the Division of Student Affairs during the current academic year.
Outstanding Staff Member Award
2014-15 Recipient - Laura W. Campbell, Coordinator Dean of Students Office/ Multicultural Affairs
The Outstanding Staff Member Award is the highest award an individual staff member can receive and is presented to an individual for exceptional accomplishments and achievements within the Division of Student Affairs at Roanoke College.
