A Letter to New Students
Dear New Student,
Opening day is just around the corner. I hope you are as excited about the beginning of the academic year as I am.
For resident students things get started at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24th. You should have recently received a message confirming your room assignment and providing you with a recommended arrival time. We strongly encourage you to plan your trip with that arrival time in mind to avoid traffic congestion and unusually long lines. To further assist with traffic flow, all students are asked to enter the campus from the Thompson Memorial Highway and Peery Drive entrance. There will be College personnel on Peery Drive to direct you to your residence hall and keep traffic flowing.
Once you arrive at your residence hall, Maroon Corps Leaders will be there to assist you in unloading your vehicle and moving your belongings into your room. As soon as your vehicle is unloaded we ask that vehicles be moved immediately to the designated parking areas to make room for others to unload.
Commuter students begin arriving on campus at 1:00 p.m. When you arrive on campus, we ask that you proceed to the designated parking areas.
Once parked, both resident and commuter students should proceed to the information tent located on the back quad where you will receive your orientation pack and instructions tailored to your check-in needs . You will then be directed to the Colket Center ballroom to officially check-in, receive your room key (if resident student) and be able to take care of any other details to get the year started. Click here for a summary of the orientation schedule.
Lastly, I want to encourage you to follow me online through my public Facebook page or Twitter account. I regularly share information about campus events and activities as well as student accomplishments and achievements. Periodically, I also provide students that follow me with opportunities to win various prizes. For example, on opening day new students will get an opportunity to Win a FREE MicroFridge for the academic year from Melvin Corporation. To get a chance to win a MicroFridge as well as other great prizes throughout the year click "Like" on my Facebook page - Dean Gene (Roanoke College Dean of Students) or "Follow" me on Twitter - @DeanGene.
Looking forward to seeing each of you on Saturday!
