The wall utilizes stunning digital photos and video to provide dynamic multimedia content that showcases college events and activities, highlights students, faculty and staff achievements, and links to College social media posts. You can also get the latest weather report, updated scores on your favorite RC athletic teams, and a whole lot more. Be sure to check it out.

You asked for more food venues on campus, and RC is working to bring them to you. This past spring, the new coffee shop, CUPS on Campus, located in the Fintel Library was launched. This fall, Elderberry's is moving on campus with a new location at 13 and 15 N. College Avenue across the street from West Hall. In the 1,600-square-foot space, the new location will offer students a larger seating area, a conference room and additional soup, sandwich and smoothie options. It will resemble the design and menu offerings at the Elderberry's flagship location at the Shoppes at West Village on Electric Road in Roanoke County. So whether you are looking for a quick cup of java, or a full meal, these new cash food options are a welcome addition to the campus.

leadership roanokeInterested in leadership development opportunities? Want to learn how to become a more effective leader? Want to be more involved on campus and meet new people? Then take a look at the Leadership Roanoke program. It consists of five different program phases that offer experiential learning opportunities for students of all knowledge and skill levels. Participation in Leadership Roanoke will help students gain more meaningful extra-curricular experiences, lead with confidence, and prepare for the world following graduation. The first phase of the program to be offered this fall is Aspire and is designed for sophomore students. Aspire will also be open to our juniors who don't currently have a leadership role in an organization, but are looking to get more involved. The program begins Wednesday, September 11th. To find out more about the program and submit your application CLICK HERE! Applications are due by Wednesday, September 4th!

Now you'll have a chance to prove you have the best team on campus. Campus Cup is a new annual Intramural Sports award that will be given to the men's, women's and co-rec teams that accumulate the most points throughout the year for their participation and achievement in a variety of events throughout the academic year. Cup teams can be formed based on Greek affiliation, student organizations, residence hall neighbors, or a group of friends. Your roster may have up to 20 players that can join at any point in the year. Points will accumulate throughout the year and the standings will be updated quarterly. To earn bonus points for your Cup team, you can enter up to 2 teams in each event: Fall - Flag Football, Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, 8-Ball (Doubles), & Tennis (Doubles); Spring - Basketball, Softball, Team Handball, Spades (Doubles), Roommate Game Doubles). To submit a team for the Campus Cup Competition go the Student Activities Center.

broken treeIf you were on the east coast of the United States this summer you know that we were hit by a number of severe Summer Storms. Salem, Virginia and the Roanoke College campus were no exceptions. Heavy rainfall and high winds ravaged the campus this summer. A number of trees were significantly damaged and some had to be removed. However, the Ground Maintenance staff have worked feverishly to keep the campus looking great and live up to our national ranking as one of the "Most Beautiful Campuses in the Nation"!

marion rampDespite the storms, a number of other facility improvements have been made. Most significant has been the replacement of the concrete steps and walkway outside of Marion Hall with a gradually sloping brick paved walkway and new landscaping. Not only does this new addition add to the beauty of the campus, it will be a tremendous advantage to student moving in and out of Marion Hall with all their belongings. In addition to exterior improvements, a number of interior building improvements and renovations have been completed. Several classrooms across campus have been renovated and new lounge furniture has been purchased for a variety of residence hall lounges. New carpet was installed in the Colket Center, the C. Homer Bast Track was resurfaced and even the old Alumni Gym got a little attention. We think you will be pleased with the on-going efforts to enhance the campus environment.

Speaking of the environment, you have probably noticed the electric vehicles that have been used by mail services and maintenance staff on campus. These environmentally friendly vehicles have been a huge success, and the College is expanding its fleet of electric vehicles. The Admissions office as well as other campus services will soon begin using electric vehicles in the College's continuing efforts to Go-Green!

A number of new staff members have joined College this summer. In particular is the arrival of the new Dean of the Chapel, Rev. Chris Bowen who succeeds Rev. Paul Henrickson, who retired this summer after 30 years of service. Other notable new staff members include

Mr. Todd Bowyer, Director of Campus Recreation

• Mr. Travis Bowles, Area Coordinator, Residence Life & Housing

• Mr. James D. Ragsdale, Head Coach, Women's Tennis

Mr. James A. Schaefer, Head Coach, Men's Tennis

• Dr. Pamela A. Serota Cote, Director of International Education

It's also been a very successful summer with the recruitment of new faculty. Seven new tenure track faculty members have been hired:

• Dr. Pablo Hernandez - BUAD (Economics)

• Dr. Steven Hughes - Chemistry

• Dr. Richard Keithley - Chemistry

• Dr. Soon Khoo - English (Communications)

• Ms. Carolina Viera - Modern Languages (Spanish)

• Dr. Lindsey Osterman - Psychology

• Dr. Justin Garrison - Public Affairs

In addition, there are 4 new Visiting Faculty & Teaching Associates.

Lastly, as noted earlier, residence hall check-in for returning students begins Monday, August 26th. Because of new student orientation, residence hall staff and room keys will not be available until this time. Please also note that to be officially checked in for fall term, all returning students must complete information forms and a check-in form through their WebAdvisor account on MyRoanoke. Students can now access the Academic Integrity Statement, Financial Acceptance Statement and Student Information Forms. The check-in form will be available through September 2. Questions may be directed to the Registrar's Office at 540-375-2211 or registrar@roanoke.edu.
