Internships: Real Experience with a Research Angle

Traditional internships, while valuable, usually involve on-the-job training assignments, but some Roanoke internships incorporate a strong research component.

During the past few years, Roanoke College Biology students have performed internships at biotechnology companies such as Novozymes, hospitals such as Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, chiropractors, doctor offices, and zoos such as Mill Mountain Zoo.

Basic human instinct tells most to fear bugs, and most people don’t have the inclination to do research on the very creatures that send a shiver down their spines. Firebaugh’s instincts told her differently, and she is spending much of her time at Roanoke College researching the critters about which she is passionate.
