The Chemistry Department is pleased to welcome Dr. Egidijus Zilinskas and Prof. Gwen Sibert as our newest department members.Summer, 2012. Fourteen students spent this summer working on a variety of research projects. Be sure to visit the poster session at Fall Family Weekend, September 28-30 to learn all about what was happening here this summer!May, 2012. Chemistry major Jeremy Johnson was selected as one of 282 Barry M. November, 2010. Cathy Sarisky and Tim Johann have just been accepted into a Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute program to involve undergraduate students in microbial genome annotation.  The Biochem II lab will include a major project-based experiment incorporating bioinformatics and functional genomics, starting in Spring 2012.
October, 2010. Congratulations to Kelly Anderson for receiving additional funding through the National Science Foundation Cyber-Enabled Discovery Initiative. She will be part of a team of scientists from the University of Minnesota, University of Helsinki, Louisiana State University, Augsburg College, and University of the Pacific who will use a combination of computational and experimental techniques to explore new particle formation in the atmosphere.
July, 2010. Dr. Kelly Anderson received two grants, one from the Jeffress Memorial Trust and one from the American Chemical Society's Petroleum Research fund. Together, these grants provide $50,000 over the next two years to support ongoing studies of the interactions of model lubricants near solid surfaces. Congratulations, Kelly!

July, 2010. Congratulations to Dr. Jack Steehler, who has been appointed as director of institutional research at Roanoke College.
July, 2010. Dr. Gary Hollis will be the new chair of the department. Congratulations, Gary!
June, 2010. Dr. Gail Steehler will be serving as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and General Education during the 2010-11 academic year beginning on July 1, 2010.
May, 2010. Congratulations to Cathy Sarisky for receiving the Single Investigator Cottrell College Science Award from Research Corporation for Scientific Advancement. This is a two-year grant in the amount of $35,000. It will be used to support research on purine biosynthesis.

  

May, 2010 The Chemistry Department is pleased to announce that Chris Monceaux will be joining us as a Visiting Faculty member for 2010-2011.

April, 2010 Both the Chemistry Department and the URAP Program had end of year picnics at Longwood Park. A good time was had by all!
