Your liberal arts major and our nationally-accredited Teacher Licensure Program will qualify you to teach in almost every U.S. state and territory. (Virginia does not offer a major in education.)
Real World Application
Through our partnerships with local schools, you'll be actively working with real students and teachers throughout your program. When you finish with us you'll have more than your teaching license; you'll know how to teach and effect positive change in the lives of your students.
Teaching in the Diverse Classroom
Our teacher licensure program will provide the knowledge, skills, and attitudes you'll need to teach in today's classrooms. We emphasize content knowledge, research-based practice, and authentic experiences in the field, to give you time and occasion to develop into a powerful pedagogical practitioner.
A True Undergraduate Program
You can expect to receive the Collegiate Professional License in four years by following the detailed instructional plan you create with your EDUC advisor. Periodic meetings keep you on track and on pace.
Through our comparative education travel courses and international student teaching placements, you may study abroad in a number of countries.
Teaching English Language Learners
Our English as a Second Language license prepares you to teach English language learners in PreK-12 schools. A concentration in TESL is also available should you be interested in working with speakers of other languages in non-school venues throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Already have an undergraduate degree?
At Roanoke College you can complete a "teacher licensure only" program. If you have a liberal arts degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, we can provide the courses you will need to secure a teaching license for the PreK-12 classroom. Learn more.
Our program is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council from March 26, 2010 to March 26, 2017 and adheres to TEAC's quality principles for teacher educators.
