About the Program
Athletic Training prepares students to offer medical services to athletes in a variety of settings. Successful graduates are able to evaluate sports injuries, apply immediate care, provide rehabilitative therapies and take measures to prevent injuries.
Why study athletic training at Roanoke College?
Certified. Roanoke's athletic training degree is from one of a handful of CAATE accredited programs in the state.
Championship experience. Because the Roanoke Valley is a sports hub hosting over 70 national championships in Division III sports (including football, lacrosse, basketball and softball), students have unparalleled athletic training experiences right in the area.
Outstanding facilities. Our impressive sports facilities give athletic training students a distinct advantage-including access to equipment for hydrotherapy, ultrasound, electrical nerve stimulation, cryotherapy, thermotherapy and more.
Individual relationships. Students don't get lost in the crowd here. We offer one-on-one attention from both faculty and health care professionals in the valley.
Students engage in real-world learning experiences under the supervision of top experts in sports medicine. Recent athletic training students have completed internships with orthopedic surgery units, hospital emergency rooms, high school and university athletic departments, physical therapy practices and more.
Athletic trainers care for athletes in a wide variety of settings-from high schools and college athletic programs to sports medicine clinics to professional sports teams.
Some students take the BOC certification exam and continue on for advanced studies; others take the BOC certification exam and immediately start their careers.
