Kaitlyn Bell - Internship with Cross Cultural Solution in Costa Rica
Kaitlyn Bell, class of 2014, spent her summer interning in Ciudad Quesada, Costa Rica. During her experience, Kaitlyn worked at La Escuela Los Angeles, teaching English to Spanish speaking students from 1st through 6th grade. Her project focused on analyzing the education system in Costa Rica and comparing it with that of the United States. Bell also worked at Mariano Juvenile, an orphanage for teenage girls, teaching English for several weeks during her internship. Bell completed her internship through Cross Cultural Solutions, a program which seeks to promote understanding and respect for other ethnicities. After weeks of lesson plans, grading and classrooms filled with enthusiastic young learners, Bell explains, "I am so fortunate to have had this experience interning abroad. When I worked with the students in Costa Rica, I was able to push myself beyond my limits because I had to convey what I wanted to teach in the English class by using my Spanish. I conquered several fears, developed my language ability and discovered what I want to do for the rest of my life. This was an experience that no classroom education could have shown me."
