Monday, February 11th: Coral Reef Discussion at 5:00 PM - Olin Hall - Upper Smoyer Gallery
Honors Conference Week's "Eight Days Around the World" will be journeying across the oceans to Olin Gallery's Coral Reef Project. Professor Minton and Dr. Jorgensen, professors in mathematics and biology, will be showing a brief video on the Coral Reefs, holding a debate on their environmental implications, followed by a tour around the gallery to see the crocheted coral reefs! This is a Class I event for the Honors Program.
Tuesday, February 12th: Paul Chappell keynote speaker at 7:30 PM - Colket Center - Wortmann Ballroom
Paul K. Chappell, West Point graduate of 2002 and former army captain who served in Iraq, will discuss the myths that perpetuate war and how we must wage peace in order to solve our national and global problems of the 21st century. Part African-American, part Asian and part Caucasian, Chappell is now Peace Leadership Director of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. His talk is the keynote lecture for the 2013 Honors Conference "Eight Days Around the World."
Wednesday, February 13th: House of Hope Speaker Kelsey Kees at 7:30 PM - Colket Center - Garrett
Guest speaker Kelsey Kees will be discussing her non-profit work with House of Hope. This organization, located in Nicaragua, seeks to create a better life for women living in poverty whose only way to support their families is through prostitution. House of Hope sells jewelry made by these Nicaraguan women so that they are able to empower themselves. The jewelry will be available during lunch blocks in the Colket Center, February 10th - 17th as well as during the night of the event! All proceeds go to House of Hope, this year's non-profit organization supported by Honors Conference Week. This is a Class I event for the Honors Program.
Thursday, February 14th: International Food tasting night at 7:00 PM - Colket Center - Garrett
Come visit Garrett and get a taste of several different ethnic dishes! International Food Tasting Night is hosted by Honors Conference Week's, "Eight Days Around The World". International students will be making a variety of food samples as well, so visit the second floor of the Colket Center for samples!
Friday, February 15th: Outdoor Adventure Hike
Join Outdoor Adventures and the Honors Program for a hike in celebration of Eight Days Around The World! Transportation provided. Meet outside of Bast Gym Parking lot and 2:15 pm.
Saturday, February 16th: Honors Talent Show at 7:30 PM - Colket Center - Wortmann Ballroom
Honors Conference Week's "Eight Days Around The World" will be hosting a talent show for all Roanoke College students to display their talents! There will be music, dance, magic, comedy, food, raffle basket prizes and much more! Bring your Conference Week passports to the event to exchange for raffle tickets and a chance to win cool prizes!
