Daily Schedule During May

During May term, Intensive Learning classes meet at the instructor's discretion. Some classes meet for several hours each morning; some meet both mornings and afternoons; some meet only in the afternoon; yet others meet in the evening or on the weekend as well. IL students should not schedule other commitments until speaking with the instructor.

Many courses will take "day trips" that can require meeting before the sun comes up or returning to campus after midnight.  Some courses will have required meetings or travel on weekends.  Students need to read course descriptions carefully to find a class that matches their needs and interests.

We are not being flip when we say: "IL owns you during May term!" Students should keep schedules free of other obligations until the instructor specifies meeting times for the class.

Students should also anticipate several hours of homework and other course requirements each day. Remember: This is intensive learning, calling for immersion in the subject.

It may be prudent to postpone work and other commitments until after IL May term.

 

Timeline for May Term Registration

Students can pre-register in October for an IL class to be held the following May. Pre-registration for IL courses continues through spring term. However, please note:

• IL travel courses have early deadlines for application and payment of fees.
• Courses fill quickly. Students are encouraged to register early.
• Students requesting permission to use an independent study or internship need to start that process early.

This schedule reflects general dates for IL events. The IL Director, the Registrar, and other college officials announce specific and additional dates during the academic year.  Consult the oficial college calendar on the Registrar's webpage.

October 1 -- November 15	Students enroll in IL TRAVEL courses.  Contact course instructor for required forms.  Students cannot register for TRAVEL courses using WebAdvisor.
October 15	Deadline for application for Helen Cobbs scholarships for travel courses.  Click for application.
Early November	Registration for CAMPUS and FIELD TRIP IL courses via WebAdvisor starts with normal Spring Term preregistration
Fall Term	Student can request IL financial aid (deadline for submission is early Feb.) -- contact Financial Aid office.
November 15	Student deadline for submitting an application for an IL Independent Study or Internship to be completed during upcoming spring term. (No other course can be taken at the same time).
November 15	Student deadline for deposits on IL travel courses.
Spring Term	Registration for campus and field trip IL courses continues.
February 1	Student deadline for submitting final payment for IL travel courses.
Early February	Student deadline for submitting IL financial aid application.
Feb. & March	Clinics offered by Health Services for students enrolled in IL travel courses.
April 1	Student deadline for submitting an application for an IL Independent Study or IL Internship to be completed during May.
Early April	Room sign-up for IL students residing on campus during May.
April 15	Student deadline for submitting an application for an IL Independent Study or IL Internship to be completed during upcoming summer term. (No other course can be taken at the same time).
