*Students residing in Caldwell, Alleghany, Ritter or Chesapeake Hall will be charged $6,574. Students residing in Elizabeth Hall can expect room/rent costs of $6,926. Afton Hall residents will be charged $6,226 for a double occupancy room. Students living in the Market Street complex (Blue Ridge, Tabor and Shenandoah Halls) will be charged room/rent costs of $6,574.
**In addition to the above costs, students should consider that there might be additional costs for transportation and personal expenses.
***Health Insurance Coverage: All international students must have health insurance coverage. Students may purchase health insurance through the college's health insurance carrier, an independent insurance carrier or obtain coverage through the family's current insurance plan. All health insurance purchased outside of the college carrier is subject to the approval of the Roanoke College Health Services Office.
****All new freshmen residing on campus MUST participate in the 19-meal plan. All other students, including new transfers, may select a 14-meal plan at a cost of $4,912. Students residing at the Afton Hall Apartments may purchase a 9-meal plan for $3,154. Students residing at Elizabeth Hall may opt out of either meal plan.
In order to be considered for merit scholarships, a student must first apply and be accepted to the College. No separate scholarship application is required for an initial merit scholarship award. The award is based upon high academic achievement and covers partial tuition. Roanoke offers merit scholarships that range from $4,500 -$16,500 annually for up to 4 years. Supplemental awards may be granted that range between $500 - $9,000 annually for up to four years for students demonstrating financial need.
Additional Scholarship Opportunities
International students may also compete on-campus in the Scholars Program or apply to the Honors Program.
The Roanoke College Scholars Program is an opportunity for students to compete on campus for additional scholarship money. To be considered for these scholarships, students must complete the Scholars Program application and be a prospective college freshman seeking first-time fall enrollment. You must also be accepted to the College prior to the competition.
The Roanoke College Honors Program is designed for students who excel in academics, have strong leadership skills and pursue numerous extracurricular activities. The Honors Program provides students with many distinct educational opportunities and classes. Besides meeting new friends, you join a competitive group of academic students who will graduate with an Honors diploma.
Roanoke College loans are available for select international students. For eligibility, students should contact the Financial Aid Office at 800-200-9221. If granted, these loans do not require a U.S. co-signer. Roanoke College loans are at an 8% interest rate and the repayment period (5 years) does not begin until 6 months after graduation.
The College also participates with Tuition Management Systems (TMS) to offer a 10 month payment plan. This option allows you to spread your tuition and/or room and board into 10 interest-free payments. There is a yearly enrollment fee charged. Students interested in this option may visit the website or contact TMS directly by calling 888-713-7234.
You may also work on-campus for up to 20 hours per week during the school year to help pay for expenses. On average, you can earn anywhere from $1,000 - $2,000 per year through on-campus employment.
