Hanstedt receives Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award
Dr. Paul Hanstedt is the fourth Roanoke professor in 10 years to receive Virginia's highest honor - SCHEV's Outstanding Faculty Award. Dr. Hanstedt was recognized in Richmond earlier this month.

Frankie Allen '71 named to Virginia Sports Hall of Fame
Allen is considered to be one of the most prolific college basketball players in Virginia Intercollegiate basketball history. He started at Roanoke in 1967 as the first African-American student-athlete at Roanoke.

Coffee, food kiosk now open at Fintel Library
CUPS on Campus, a new shop serving snacks, coffee, tea and other drinks, now is open inside Fintel Library's first floor lobby. Its opening marks the first day of spring semester classes at Roanoke and the first Salem location for coffee shop proprietor, Michelle Bennett.

Roanoke's Historic Bittle Tree removed (updated with video)
Roanoke lost one of its historic icons, the Bittle Tree, which was removed due to safety issues. The tree was planted by Roanoke’s founding President David Bittle.

Virginians support allowing those currently living in the U.S. to remain here legally and half support a path to citizenship for them. Residents of the Commonwealth are split on issues of same-sex marriage. Gun control regulations are supported but Virginians doubt the effectiveness of such regulation.

Legendary Roanoke College Coach Homer Bast passes away
UPDATED: C. Homer Bast, a legend at Roanoke for his work in the classroom and on the track, passed away May 20. He was 98 years old. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem.
