Bast Center Gets New Scoreboard
Roanoke's indoor sports venue, the Bast Center, has replaced its 27-year-old scoreboard with new state-of-the-art equipment that includes shot clocks and a jumbotron message board.
The new system was installed over Christmas break by Time Technologies, which put in a similar system at Kerr Stadium last spring. This newest equipment, which cost $80,000, was donated by Roanoke Trustee Morris Cregger '64.
An active supporter of his alma mater, Cregger has served on the Board of Trustees for many years. The former athlete had lettered in four sports, excelled in basketball, earning All-Mason Dixon Conference honors and finishing second in career scoring at the time of his graduation. This latest "assist" for his alma mater is close to his heart.
However, Cregger also has been successful off the court. Cregger & Company, his plumbing and fixture supply company headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina, is considered one of the most successful privately owned businesses in the Southeast.
The new scoreboard was installed on January 3 and will benefit all events held in the Bast Center.
