Chris Besse -- “Make Roanoke College your own”

"As soon as I stepped on campus I had this gut feeling that Roanoke was the place for me...," says senior pre-law student Chris Besse. "Now I call Roanoke my home."

Besse, who majors in both political science and criminal justice, has worked as an intern in Washington, D.C., and in the commonwealth attorney's office. These experiences have distinctly prepared him for the challenges of law school. "I actually was in the courtroom writing out plea agreements... and reading court decisions," he says.

His advice to incoming freshmen is as succinct as it is solid: "Get involved." They are words he takes to heart. On any given weekend, you might find Besse guiding an Outdoor Adventures trip to the Appalachian Trail, kayaking on the James River, playing intramural football, or spending time with his fraternity brothers and friends.

"Roanoke offers so many opportunities from the outdoors to clubs and activities," says Besse. "I have really opened up and found so many things that I never knew I could do."
