New communications honor society at Roanoke inducts first members
Salem, Va. -- Roanoke College has a new honor society to recognize students who excel in the communications field.
Last month, Roanoke inducted eight members into Lambda Pi Eta (LPH). The society's Roanoke chapter, which is Alpha Beta Gamma, recognizes and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies. The College added a new communications studies major last fall.
Student members of the new society must have completed at least 15 units of undergraduate credit and at least 3 units in communications courses. They also must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and at least a 3.25 GPA in communication courses.
The honor society explores graduate education opportunities in communications, and it encourages members' professional development. Lambda Pi Eta is an official honor society of the National Communication Association.
The society's 2012-2013 Roanoke officers are Kayla Fuller, president; Alexander Holt Walker-Drennan, vice president and treasurer; Emily Brown, secretary and public relations /marketing officer; and Karen Hagele, scholarship officer.
Dr. Debra Melican, a communications professor at Roanoke, is the society's faculty advisor.
