Schrantz graduated from Roanoke College in 1995 and Seton Hall University School of Law in 1999. Upon completion of Officer Candidates School in 1998, he received his commission in the Marine Corps. After graduating from law school, he attended The Basic School, Quantico, and the Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode Island. In late 2000, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 3rd Force Service Support Group and also served as a trial counsel. In September 2001, he then reported for duty to the Marine Security Guard Battalion, Quantico, where he served as the Headquarters Company Commander and Battalion legal officer until February 2004. He was then assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines and was deployed with the infantry battalion to Iraq from March through August 2004. He is currently assigned as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for 2nd Marine Division, Jacksonville, N.C. He will again deploy to Iraq in August of this year.
