Roanoke College sets several enrollment records

SALEM, Va.-Roanoke College set an enrollment for the fifth straight year. Total enrollment on the Salem campus stands at 2,046. This is the third straight year the College has had over 2,000 students. The College also has a record number of full-time students (1,936).

"We are especially proud that Roanoke College attracted another record number of applications for 2009," Brenda Poggendorf, vice president of enrollment, said. "This is a sign of Roanoke's growing reputation in the region and beyond." Roanoke received 4,169 applications for enrollment in the fall of 2009.

Other notable achievements include a record 193 minority students, 39 international students from 25 countries and a record 1,284 students living on campus.

Freshmen students numbering 560 arrived on campus this fall. They joined 82 new transfer students. A total of 652 new full-time students (including freshmen, transfers and those classified as special students) are attending Roanoke.

"Roanoke and progress are synonymous," said President Michael Maxey. "This is one of many signs that Roanoke College is a rising star among colleges across the country. I am pleased that we continue to offer educational quality that appeals to students and their families."

Roanoke's strength extends beyond its enrollment records. Roanoke also completed its 54th year "in the black" with a balanced budget.
