Golf co-captains headed for medical and law school

Brandon Ketron '12 and Adam Skaff '12, co-captains of the Roanoke College Men's Golf Team have big plans for the future.

Juggling a full-year sport with academics is no problem for Ketron, who has been accepted to three law schools. A business major with concentrations in accounting and finance, he hopes to one day work in tax or estate law.

Ketron thanks the golf team for providing him with an escape from the hustle and bustle of college life.

"You're in control and have all the responsibility while you're playing," he said. "It's a place where you can go to get away from everything."

Skaff is a biochemistry major and plans to attend the West Virginia University School of Medicine in the fall. A member of the national health pre-professional honors society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, he has dreamed of a career in medicine for as long as he can remember.

Skaff has worked for a kidney specialist in Charleston, W.Va., each summer since high school and will work at the Charleston Area Medical Center this summer. He is looking forward to shadowing surgeons and experiencing different aspects of healthcare.

Skaff attributes his academic success at Roanoke to his professors who have challenged him intellectually.

"At Roanoke, it's not as easy to get an A as it is at other schools," he said. "I think that the education here and hard work I had to put in has prepared me for the hard work I will be doing in medical school."

Both Skaff and Ketron received ODAC All-Academic honors and are active members of the College's Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

Although their time playing competitive golf is quickly coming to an end, Skaff and Ketron expect to play the sport recreationally for years to come.
