Maroons share the Love
Roanoke's first social media photo contest was a roaring success. Thanks to everyone who submitted pictures for the College to share on social media and the College's website.
Sarah Merrill '04, who was back to campus for her 10th reunion, won the contest with a photo collage of her son, M.J. He was pictured first with the contest signs and the second shot showed him kicking the Kicking Post, with a caption of "What mom...I could win an iPad mini? Cool, I'll just kick this post for good luck!" #iloveroanoke
There were so many good choices, a second prize was awarded to the Maroons' Choice. Ten pictures were posted to a Facebook album and Roanoke fans had two days to generate "like" votes for their favorite. Those 10 photos generated nearly 900 likes. Bonnie Gumpman '11 took a photo with President Maxey and it gained the most likes and earned the Maroons' Choice win.

Maroons far and wide submitted 110 pictures via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Two alumni in Spain sent in their pictures even though they couldn't be on campus for the reunions. Other pictures included future Maroons (cute babies and kids), current students, Maroon alumni and shots of Roanoke's beautiful campus. President Maxey made a few appearances, along with a few faculty and staff members like Olin Hall's George Arthur, the Public Affairs department's Morgan Scott and Dr. David Scaer from Modern Languages. Local favorites Mac & Bobs and Macado's also showed up in the photos.
You don't have to be on social media to see the wide array of Roanoke images. Check out the full gallery on Roanoke's website.
