  • SALEM, Va. - This afternoon, April 13, at 5:30 p.m. Roanoke College's English department will host a reading/book signing/celebration of Mary Hill's award-winning second book of poems, called A Theory of Everything. Hill, a member of Roanoke's class of '91, also teaches at the College.

A Theory of Everything was selected by Naomi Shihab Nye for the 2008 Autumn House Poetry Award and is currently available on Amazon. Hill's first book, If You Return Home with Food, won the Bluestem Award. Her poems have appeared in numerous magazines, as well as on Poetry Daily and in American Poetry: The Next Generation.

    Critical Acclaim for the book:
"A Theory of Everything is deeply original, magical, and weird in a good way, as we used to say back in grade school.. Like a mesmerizing sky."
    - Naomi Shihab Nye

"After Darwin, after string theory, Hill grapples with the question of what it means-what it really means-that we are all interconnected, and does so in the midst of all the crude and delicate intimacies of daily life."
    - Mary Szybist
