Roanoke College Hosts Lecture on Peace in the Middle East

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College International Cluster, a faculty group on campus, is sponsoring a lecture titled "Prospects for Peace in the Middle East." The talk will feature guest speaker Ambassador Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations. Ambassador Mansour will address the state of the conflict in the Middle East at Roanoke College on Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Massengill Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

Mansour has held the position as Permanent Observer with the U.N. since 2005, and served as the Deputy Permanent Observer of Palestine to the U.N. from 1988-1994. He also has served as an adjunct professor of political science for the University of Central Florida in Orlando, as well as the president of Mansour Consulting, LLC, also in Orlando.

The Ambassador received his Ph.D. from the University of Akron in Ohio. Mansour was born in the village of Al-Muzayri'a in Palestine. Soon after, his family relocated to Ramallah, located in the occupied West Bank. Mansour came to the United States in 1970 for his undergraduate studies at Youngstown State University. Since his youth, he has been involved in Palestinian politics and began his career in the Palestinian diplomatic service in 1988 at the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations. He was appointed Permanent Observer in 2005.
