Performing Arts Series
Friday, September 17, 8pm The Roy Haynes Quartet, Olin theater
The Performing Arts Series opens the 2004-05 season with The Roy Haynes Quartet, "Fountain of Youth." Roy Haynes is the pulse of legendary jazz. For over 50 years, he has influenced some of the greatest recordings of jazz while his joyous drumming with the legends of the genre altered the very fabric and direction of jazz improvisation. Who else can claim residencies with Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davies, John Coltrane and Chick Corea? Monk once described Haynes' drumming as "an eight ball right in the side pocket." Do not miss this jazz giant with his brilliant quartet in the intimate Olin Theater.
