Tom DeLuca Returns to Campus
SALEM, Va.—Comedian/Hypnotist Tom DeLuca brings his “Theatre of the Imagination” to Roanoke College, Thursday, August 31 at 8 p.m. in the Olin Hall Theater. The event is open to the public and tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 1, at the College’s Colket Center Information Office. Tickets are $10 for the general public. The New York Post writes, "DeLuca is careful not to humiliate his subjects. Rather, he taps into their personalities, bringing human foibles gently to the surface. The results of Tom’s show are fascinating, hilarious, at times even poignant. Don’t miss him." And people don’t miss his show! At the University of Virginia, DeLuca drew 10,000 students. A recent overflow crowd of 800 enthusiastic students at Georgetown University awaited DeLuca's shenanigans by clapping, stomping and chanting "Tom!... Tom!...Tom!"
Such rock-star frenzy is triggered by DeLuca’s ability to hypnotize audience volunteers into doing loony things, such as really believing they’re the world’s greatest dancers, being completely unable to remember their own names when asked or acting like aliens from a distant world. When Tom DeLuca performed at Roanoke College’s family weekend in 2005, over 850 parents and students sat in awe as they watched their sons, daughters, friends, and parents be convinced that, among other things, their neighbor’s shoulder was the home of the most wonderful smell in the world.
What sets Tom's show apart from others is that it gives the audience insight into common traits that we all share. "His approach is to forgo the gimmickry in order to reveal the fun and wonder hidden in the attics of his volunteers’ minds. There are moments of joy and happiness on stage" raves Rolling Stone. With DeLuca’s show, hypnosis truly goes beyond entertainment to reveal how powerful the imagination can be. DeLuca is a four-time winner of the National Association of Campus Activities’ most prestigious entertainment honor, campus entertainer of the year.
Roanoke College, the country’s second oldest Lutheran-related college, is an independent, co-educational, four-year liberal arts college. Roanoke is one of just 270 colleges nationwide with a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honor society. The Princeton Review names Roanoke as one of the “best in the Southeast.” Roanoke’s 1,900 students represent 41 states across the U.S. and 25 foreign countries.
