The event begins with a social starting at 6:00 p.m. Please roam throughout Fintel Library & stop to talk to our students. Historical Walk/Tour of Roanoke College's Neighborhood
8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Join The David F. Bittle College Historian Dr. Mark Miller & Salem Museum Director John Long for an early morning walk through the historic neighborhood surrounding the College & a tour of Main Street. All ages are invited. Meet at the flag poles on the Back Quad.

Family Hikes Sponsored by the Outdoor Adventures Program
8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Experience a touch of the RC Outdoor Adventures Program. Meet in the lower Olin Hall parking lot fifteen minutes prior to departure time.

  • Dragon's Tooth Hike
    8:00 a.m.
    Strenuous, 5 miles round trip, 4 hours
  • Sawtooth Ridge Hike
    9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
    Moderate, 2 miles round trip, 1 1/2 hours

For all hikes, please wear comfortable shoes, preferably hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes. Water & a small snack will be provided. No charge. Seating is limited (only 10 seats per van), so sign up early. Once registered, please complete the medical form & bring one copy per family. The form can be found at www.roanoke.edu/familyweekend. Get In the Game - Career Coaching
9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
The transition from college student to young professional is filled with many choices and challenges.  Career Services offers a variety of services to students during every step of their college experience including creating resumes, assistance with the graduate school admissions process, and preparing for a successful internship/job search. Parents will gain valuable insight on how to best "coach" their college student. These two concurrent sessions will focus on the separate needs of freshmen/sophomores and juniors/seniors.

Wilderness and the Myths of American Environmentalism featuring Dr. James Turner

Many people have viewed the Wilderness Act of 1964 as the culminating event in a long history of American conservation & preservation.  This talk takes wilderness as the starting point for a new history of American environmental politics.  Roanoke native James Turner is a faculty member in the Environmental Studies Program at Wellesley College & author of The Promise of Wilderness: American Environmental Politics since 1964.

Musical Extravaganza
