As our students say, this is a place to be not just to attend, where you are appreciated for who you are and for who you want to become. Here, the Collegiate Gothic architecture and Blue Ridge Mountain views are as uplifting as the people are genuine and friendly.
Here, you'll find nearly two centuries of traditions from championship NCAA Division III athletics to big-name speakers to the kicking post and Bittle's Bash. Roanoke combines the spirit and fun of quintessential campus life with the community and comfort of our historic hometown of Salem and the city energy and opportunities of the city of Roanoke only ten minutes away.
A college town with a population of 25,000, Salem is located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley. Long known for its history, quaint Main Street and quality of life, Salem and Roanoke College have strong town-gown ties and many mutual cultural and community service partnerships.
Ten minutes from Salem, the City of Roanoke is consistently ranked one of the best places to live in the United States. Its movies, malls and restaurants, and the student populations of other nearby colleges and universities, extend our "college town." Together, the neighboring cities of Salem and Roanoke are home to approximately 300,000.
Blue Ridge Mountains
Just 15 minutes from campus is the local trailhead for the famous 2,000-mile Appalachian Trail. With their beauty, history, music and spirit of adventure, these mountains are a signature backdrop to a Roanoke education.
