Asian Students United
Asian Students United (ASU) was created to provide both Asians and non-Asians a place to gather, meet, and educate one another on the topics of: diversity, culture, and heritage. We serve in voicing the opinions of the Asian student body to the college community. As well as providing support for all students of the Roanoke College community. ASU is open to all members of the Roanoke College community both Asians and non-Asians.
Black Student Alliance
The purpose of the BSA shall be to promote diversity, to uplift and support culture, to promote unity, and to provide support for black students. Its primary function is to help students with adjustments they may face in a college environment. We are dedicated to representing and protecting the interests of black students on campus as well as the surrounding community. We hope to increase awareness of black student contributions, issues and ideas.
Delta Sigma Theta
The Tau Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on April 23, 2005 by twelve determined young women who were dedicated to the principles of the sorority. This chapter is a joint chapter comprised of women from the campuses of Roanoke College and Washington and Lee University. The chartering of this chapter brought the first historically black sorority to both campuses. Realizing the need for a strong foundation, the highly dedicated women of this chapter focused on internal development during the chapter's first year in existence. Since 2005, the Tau Omega Chapter members have been academically inclined and highly motivated women dedicated to serving their campus, the Southwest Virginia community, and the nation at large. The chapter has been involved in a host of programs, projects, lectures, and events concerning local and national activities, issues, and concerns.
Hispanic Organization for Leadership & Achievement
The purpose of HOLA is to promote cultural appreciation and understanding of Spanish speaking cultures and to promote leadership and achievement among Hispanic students at Roanoke College.
The Roanoke College International Club is an organization that emphasizes awareness of cultures throughout the world. It also provides a forum for international students, American students and faculty to come together. The international club sponsors the annual International Festival, as well as weekend field trips to Washington, DC and Charleston, SC,. The International Club also organizes day trips to local destinations, such as Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and the University of Virginia.
The Lambda Alliance is an organization that encourages the acceptance of sexual diversity, offers a safe environment to discuss issues involving sexuality, and educates people about different sexual orientations, while trying to alleviate fears and prejudices.
A Jewish organization affiliated with Hillel, The National Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. The purpose is to provide a place for all students to understand the many different cultures and aspects of Judaism. It holds open celebrations, discussions and weekly meetings, as well as providing access to local synagogues, Beth Israel and Temple Emmanuel.
