Star City Soccer Foundation
"There are never enough 'human' resources, students with no literacy or no English need one-on-one instruction to improve skills and learn quickly. They will become a burden on our society-unable to get a decent job, support a family, healthcare, etc...Without a language and without an education you are not going very far."
-Barbara Carper, former English Language Learners Coordinator, Language Coordinator Roanoke City Schools
Mission Statement: Star City Soccer Foundation/Star City Academy works with immigrant and refugee students to assimilate these children into the culture of our city and country. We try to help by one-on-one tutoring, summer camps and individual mentoring. SCSF provides opportunities for education, assimilation, and leadership for refugee and immigrant students in Roanoke, Virginia. SCSF aims to help refugee and immigrant students overcome the challenges associated with a transition to a new culture so that they will become self-sufficient and valuable contributors to the local community.
