IM Referee/Scorekeeper

Overview

The Intramural Sports Referee/Scorekeeper, reporting to the Intramural Sports Supervisor, is a valuable component within the Intramural Sports program that is responsible for equipment setup and breakdown, implementing game rules and maintaining order. Though all intramural staff members are still allowed to play intramurals, employment as a referee may require the individual to make working a priority over participating in the program.

Pay Rate

• Starts at $7.25/hour

Hours

• Approximately 6-10 hours per week
• Typically in the evenings but may work and attend meetings during the day or on weekends

Responsibilities

• General

o Be on time and ready to work when scheduled
o Setup equipment for intramural sports contests and breakdown at its conclusion
o Respond to emergency situations according to level of first responder training
o Attend referee/scorekeeper training sessions and meetings throughout the year
o Keep an accurate record of hours worked and submit timesheet when due

• Referee

o Understand the rules and officiating techniques for the various sports offered
o Educate participants on sport rules and promote sportsmanship
o Implement rules fairly and consistently during intramural sports contests

• Scorekeeper

o Verify Maroon Card then record each student's participation
o Maintain an accurate score and time throughout the competition
o Record points, fouls, and any other statistics as assigned

Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing
• Knowledge of sports rules and strategies preferred
• Effective communication skills and leadership ability
• Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification or willingness to become certified
