Request for Special Housing Accommodations

Occasionally a student may present medical, psychological, or other conditions which warrant consideration for special housing accommodations or accommodations outside of the regular housing selection/assignment processes.  In such situations, the student is required to provide a formal written appeal which outlines specific reasons for the special request.*  If the appeal is due to medical or psychological conditions, the student's doctor or healthcare provider is also required to provide detailed documentation which supports the request, and which demonstrates how the condition impacts the student's ability to succeed in his or her current living environment.

Additionally, in order to consider requests for special housing accommodations, the student may be requested to register with the Office of Disabilities Services, which is located in the Center for Learning and Teaching, Fintel Library.

Following are steps to submit a request for special housing accommodations.  If you are unclear about how to proceed based on your particular circumstances, please consult with the Residence Life and Housing staff

If you are requesting special housing accommodations for non-medical reason(s) you must submit the following to the Director of Residence Life and Housing:

  1. A completed Request for Special Housing Accommodations Cover form

  2. A written statement which outlines compelling reasons for and benefits of the accommodations you are seeking and how your current accommodations present a hardship for you

If you are requesting special housing accommodations for medical or psychological reason(s) you must submit the following to the Director of Residence Life and Housing:

  1. A completed Request for Special Housing Accommodations Cover form

  2. A completed Request for Special Housing Accommodations for Medical or Psychological Reasons form

If your appeal requires information from a doctor or health care provider, it is your responsibility to ensure that all required and completed documentation is submitted to the Director of Residence Life and Housing.

Once all materials have been received, the materials will be shared with the Coordinator of Disabilities Support Services and any other appropriate College personnel for review.  If further information is needed, you will be contacted and requested to provide or arrange the necessary information.  A written decision will be delivered to you.

All materials must be returned to the Roanoke College Director of Residence Life and Housing. Materials may be sent by facsimile or email or by paper copy via U.S. mail:
