Residence Life and Housing Staff

All residence halls have student and/or full-time staff members living in them. Staff members are responsible for helping establish and maintain an environment which is supportive of the academic mission of the college and which encourages the development of all students.

What is an Area Coordinator (AC)? 

Area Coordinators are full-time professional, live-in staff members responsible for the overall operation of the residence halls. They have graduate degrees in student development or a related field and have had previous experience working with college students and student groups. Area Coordinators also have additional responsibilities in the division of student affairs such as advising fraternities and sororities, handling judicial referrals, and providing campus activities.

What is a Head Resident Advisor (Head RA)?

Head Resident Advisors are students who have been selected by the Residence Life professional staff to assist with the operations of the department. Head RAs have previously served as Resident Advisors and have been trained by the professional staff, so they are helpful and informed. The Head RAs assist with supervision of the RA staff, emergency situations, and administration of the residence life program.

What is a Resident Advisor (RA)?

A Resident Advisor is an undergraduate student serving on the residence life staff who is responsible for a number of residents. The RA assists in the social, educational, cultural, and community development of students on the floor and in the residence hall. The RA serves as a resource for campus services, community builders, programmers, and administrators and helps promote our mission to provide students with safe and comfortable living environment. The RA spends a significant amount of time getting to know residents as individuals and generating enthusiasm in bringing students together to create floor and hall communities.

What is a Greek Resident Manager (GRM)?

The GRM assists in social, educational, cultural development of greek students. A Greek Resident Manager (GRM) is an undergraduate staff member who is directory responsible for the operation of the fraternity and sorority areas in regard to room inventories, damages, roster reconciliation and physical plant/housekeeping needs.

Teresa "Tess" Blethyn

Tess has been the Director of Residence Life and Housing at Roanoke College for over 20 years. A Roanoke Valley native, Tess completed both her Bachelor of Science in upper elementary education and Master of Science in student personnel services at Radford University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in higher education student affairs at Virginia Tech. Prior to her work at Roanoke, Tess held positions at UCLA, the University of Miami, and The Colorado College. She enjoys reading, yoga, movies, music, cooking, and hiking.

Ms. Nikki Sanguiliano

Nikki oversees Bartlett, Smith, Crawford, and Marion Halls.  Before joining the team at Roanoke, Nikki earned both a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a master's degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.

Her hobbies include running, cycling, hiking, being outdoors, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and listening to music.

Ellysia oversees Allegheny, Augusta, Caldwell, New, and Ritter Halls.  Originally from Dallas, Texas, Ellysia earned her undergraduate degree in Spanish from Oklahoma State University and her Master's Degree in College Student Affairs from the University of North Texas.

Kody oversees Wells, Yonce, Fox, Chalmers, Elizabeth, Afton, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Kappa Alpha Halls.  He obtained both his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Masters of Science degree in Educational Leadership (Student Affairs Program) from the University of North Dakota.  His hobbies include rock climbing, traveling, being outside in the sun, and relaxing with  Netflix.  He was born and raised in Hastings, Minnesota... Skol Vikings!

Carley oversees the daily operation of the Residence Life & Housing office. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA. She enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, and traveling with friends and family.


Meet the Head Resident Advisors:

Audra Aldrich '15

 Audra is a junior at Roanoke College studying Sports Management! She is from Audubon, New Jersey and is a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. In her free time she enjoys watching sports, going to the beach, and hanging out with family and friends. While at Roanoke College, Audra has gotten very involved on campus. Currently, she works as a Student Assistant in Admissions, is a thrower for the Varsity Track & Field team, a sister of Alpha Sigma Alpha, and the East Side Head Resident Advisor.

 

 

Brooke Conrad '15

Brooke is a senior Spanish major with minors in biology and chemistry. She is from Gastonia, North Carolina, and enjoys running, reading Nicholas Sparks' novels, traveling abroad, and spending time with family. Brooke recently completed an internship in Guatemala where she worked in the clinic at Casa Bernabe, a local orphanage. Her campus involvement includes membership in Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, the Honors Program, and student employment in the Spanish department. Brooke plans to attend Physician Assistant school upon graduation.

Katie Larrivee '15

Katie is a senior Sociology major from Uxbridge, Massachusetts.  Along with a French minor, she plans to graduate with concentrations in Peace and Justice Studies and Africana Studies in May 2015.  A majority of her time is spent outside of the classroom, though. Katie is a member of the Honors Program, a brother and VP of Service for the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity chapter on campus, and President of the Habitat for Humanity chapter at Roanoke.  Her favorite memories are from times spent with family and friends and often involve camping and hiking, kayaking, random water fights, games of "Would You Rather?," kicking it back in hammocks, Patriots football, and pick-up games of beach volleyball.  She loves both being challenged and challenging others to think outside the box and step outside of their comfort zones.​

Ashby McGarry '15

 

Ashby is a senior Business Administration major with a double concentration in Global Business and Leadership. A Pittsburgh native, she's an avid Steelers and Penguins fan. Her campus involvement includes membership in Alpha Kappa Psi, The National Society of Leadership and Success, and employment in the Resource Development office.  Busy as she is, her heart belongs to the South Side staff and residents! Ashby tries to challenge herself with everything that Roanoke has to offer and provide passion for everything she does.
