Residence Life and Housing Staff

All residence halls have student and/or full-time staff members living in them. Staff members are responsible for helping establish and maintain an environment which is supportive of the academic mission of the college and which encourages the development of all students.

What is an Area Coordinator (AC)? 

Area Coordinators are full-time professional, live-in staff members responsible for the overall operation of the residence halls. They have graduate degrees in student development or a related field and have had previous experience working with college students and student groups. Area Coordinators also have additional responsibilities in the division of student affairs such as advising fraternities and sororities, handling judicial referrals, and providing campus activities.

What is a Head Resident Advisor (Head RA)?

Head Resident Advisors are students who have been selected by the Residence Life professional staff to assist with the operations of the department. Head RAs have previously served as Resident Advisors and have been trained by the professional staff, so they are helpful and informed. The Head RAs assist with supervision of the RA staff, emergency situations, and administration of the residence life program.

What is a Resident Advisor (RA)?

A Resident Advisor is an undergraduate student serving on the residence life staff who is responsible for a number of residents. The RA assists in the social, educational, cultural, and community development of students on the floor and in the residence hall. The RA serves as a resource for campus services, community builders, programmers, and administrators and helps promote our mission to provide students with safe and comfortable living environment. The RA spends a significant amount of time getting to know residents as individuals and generating enthusiasm in bringing students together to create floor and hall communities.

What is a Greek Resident Manager (GRM)?

The GRM assists in social, educational, cultural development of greek students. A Greek Resident Manager (GRM) is an undergraduate staff member who is directory responsible for the operation of the fraternity and sorority areas in regard to room inventories, damages, roster reconciliation and physical plant/housekeeping needs.

Meet the Professional Staff


Teresa "Tess" Blethyn
Director of Residence Life and Housing

Tess has been the Director of Residence Life and Housing at Roanoke College for 20 years. A Roanoke Valley native, Tess completed both her Bachelor of Science in upper elementary education and Master of Science in student personnel services at Radford University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in higher education student affairs at Virginia Tech. Prior to her work at Roanoke, Tess held positions at UCLA, the University of Miami, and The Colorado College. She enjoys reading, yoga, movies, music, cooking, and hiking.


Travis Bowles
Area Coordinator/Housing & Assignments Coordinator

Travis oversees Allegheny, Augusta, Caldwell, New, and Ritter Halls.  He has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Radford University and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas.  Travis was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia.  He enjoys cooking, traveling, reading (especially in coffee shops!), and watching a good TV show or movie.


Gregory Hanlon
Area Coordinator/Student Conduct Coordinator

Greg oversees Bartlett, Smith, Crawford, and Chalmers halls.  He obtained a bachelor's degree in health and human performance from Roanoke College in 2011.  He has a Master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  His hobbies include running, cycling, hiking, being outdoors, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and listening to music.

Kristen Pearson
Area Coordinator/Campus Activities Board Advisor

Kristen oversees Bowman, Yonce, Wells and Fox Halls. Originally from the D.C. and Maryland area, she lived in South Florida earning her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Barry University and her Master's Degree in College Student Affairs at Nova Southeastern University. Kristen's hobbies include coffee, cooking, shopping, the Miami Heat, and Netflixing.

Kody Rother
Area Coordinator/Greek Life Coordinator

Kody oversees Elizabeth, Afton, Chesapeake, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Kappa Alpha halls.  He obtained both his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Masters of Science degree in Educational Leadership (Student Affairs Program) from the University of North Dakota.  His hobbies include rock climbing, traveling, being outside in the sun, and relaxing with  Netflix.  He was born and raised in Hastings, MN... Skol Vikings!

Carley Ellis
Coordinator of Residence Life and Housing Office

Carley oversees the daily operation of the Residence Life & Housing office. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA. She enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, and traveling with friends and family.

Audra Aldrich '15
Head Resident Advisor for Area Coordinator/Campus Activities Board Advisor
Audra is a junior at Roanoke College studying Sports Management! She is from Audubon, New Jersey and is a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. In her free time she enjoys watching sports, going to the beach, and hanging out with family and friends. While at Roanoke College, Audra has gotten very involved on campus. Currently, she works as a Student Assistant in Admissions, is a thrower for the Varsity Track & Field team, a sister of Alpha Sigma Alpha, and the East Side Head Resident Advisor.

Colleen Britain '14
Head Resident Advisor for Area Coordinator/Student Conduct Coordinator
Colleen is a senior at Roanoke College studying Biology with the intent of continuing her education in a graduate program for Genetics. She was born in Concord, New Hampshire and has lived in Hopkinton, New Hampshire her entire life with her parents, two older sisters, and older brother. In her free time, Colleen enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to the beach, and watching the Red Sox! At Roanoke College, Colleen has kept herself busy through many on campus experiences. Currently, she is the Vice President of Membership Education for Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, works in the Chemistry Department as a Teaching Assistant, assists the Director of Community Programs with Summer Conferences, and most importantly, is the Head Resident Advisor for the South Side of Campus.

Marshall Lancey '14
Head Resident Advisor for Area Coordinator/Greek Life Coordinator
Marshall is a Senior, Sociology major from Lexington, Virginia with concentrations in Anthropology and Information Analysis. This is Marshall's 3rd year with Residence Life & Housing at Roanoke College. He was a Resident Advisor during his sophomore year before making the move to Greek Resident Manager for his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, his Junior year. He is currently a Head Resident Advisor along with being a Maroon Ambassador, Grant Writing Assistant, and a member of both the Academic and Student Conduct Councils. When not studying or working, Marshall loves to watch any and every sport and bad movie possible. Marshall is looking to continue his academic career by pursuing a Master's degree in higher education this fall.

Katie Larrivee '15
Head Resident Advisor for Area Coordinator/Housing & Assignments Coordinator
Katie is a rising senior and Sociology major from Uxbridge, Massachusetts.  Along with a French minor, she plans to graduate with concentrations in Peace and Justice Studies and Africana Studies in May 2015.  A majority of her time is spent outside of the classroom though, and she enjoys learning about her local communities in Salem and Roanoke through volunteering for non-profit organizations like Habitat for Humanity and projects such as Micah's Backpack.  Katie is a member of the Honors Program and a brother of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity chapter on campus.  Her favorite memories are from times spent with family and friends and often involve camping and hiking, kayaking, random water fights, games of "Would You Rather?," kicking it back in hammocks, Patriots football, and pick-up games of beach volleyball.  She loves both being challenged and challenging others to think outside the box and step outside of their comfort zones.
Jamie Sievers '14
Head Resident Advisor
Jamie is a senior at Roanoke College! She is a Spanish major and spent her Spring 2013 semester abroad in Argentina. She hails from Baltimore, Maryland and is a huge Ravens and Orioles fan. Jamie loves being outside, Chipotle, Netflixing, and being involved on campus. She is part of the Maroon Ambassador program, a member of the Honors Program, a sister of Alpha Sigma Alpha, and plays intramural sports.
