2012-2013 Residence Life and Housing Staff
All residence halls have student and/or full-time staff members living in them. Staff members are responsible for helping establish and maintain an environment which is supportive of the academic mission of the college and which encourages the development of all students.
What is an Area Coordinator (AC)?
Area coordinators are full-time professional, live-in staff members responsible for the overall operation of the residence halls. They all have graduate degrees in student development or a related field and have had previous experience in working with college students and student groups. Area coordinators also have additional responsibilities in the division of student affairs such as advising fraternities and sororities, handling judicial referrals, and providing campus activities.
What is a Head Resident Advisor (Head RA)?
The Head RAs are students who have been selected by the Residence Life professional staff to assist with the operations of the department. The Head RAs have previously served as Resident Advisors, and have been trained by the professional staff, so they are helpful and informed. The Head RAs assist with supervision of the RA staff, emergency situations, and administration of the residence life program.
What is a Resident Advisor (RA)?
A resident advisor is an undergraduate student serving on the residence life staff who is responsible for a number of residents. The RA assists in the social, educational, cultural, and community development of students on the floor and in the residence hall. The RA serves as a resource for campus services, community builders, programmers, and administrators and helps promote our mission to provide students with safe and comfortable living environment. The RA spends a significant amount of time getting to know residents as individuals and generating enthusiasm in bringing students together to create floor and hall communities.
What is a Greek Resident Manager (GRM)?
The GRM assists in social, educational, cultural development of greek students. A Greek Resident Manager (GRM) is an undergraduate staff member who is directory responsible for the operation of the fraternity and sorority areas in regard to room inventories, damages, roster reconciliation and physical plant/housekeeping needs.

Teresa "Tess" Blethyn Tess is finishing her 19th year as the Director of Residence Life and Housing at Roanoke College. A Roanoke Valley native, Tess completed both her Bachelor of Science in upper elementary education and Master of Science in student personnel services at Radford University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in higher education student affairs at Virginia Tech. Prior to her work at Roanoke, Tess held positions at UCLA, the University of Miami, and The Colorado College. She enjoys reading, yoga, movies, music, cooking, and hiking. |

Carley Ellis Carley is finishing her first year at Roanoke College. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA. She enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, and traveling with friends and family. |

Kody Rother Kody oversees Elizabeth, Afton, Chesapeake, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Kappa Alpha halls. He obtained both his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Masters of Science degree in Educational Leadership (Student Affairs Program) from the University of North Dakota. His hobbies include rock climbing, traveling, being outside in the sun, and relaxing with Netflix. He was born and raised in Hastings, MN… Skol Vikings! |

Kristen Pearson Kristen is just beginning her first year at RC. She will oversee Bowman, Yonce, Wells and Fox Halls. Originally from the D.C. and Maryland area, she lived in South Florida earning her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Barry University and her Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs at Nova Southeastern University. Kristen’s hobbies include coffee, cooking, shopping, the Miami Heat, and Netflixing. |

Meghan Kelly Meghan oversees Marion, Blue Ridge, Shenandoah, Tabor, and Catawba halls. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, a Masters of Education from Arcadia University and a Masters of Science in Higher Education Administration and Policy from Northwestern University. Meghan was born and raised in Warminster, PA, and in her spare time enjoys scrapbooking, knitting, and watching movies and college football. |

Gregory Hanlon Greg oversees Bartlett, Smith, Crawford, and Chalmers halls. He has a Bachelor's of Science in Health and Human Performance that he obtained from Roanoke College in 2011. He will obtain his Master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. His hobbies include running, cycling, hiking, being outdoors, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and listening to music. |

| Zach, from Craig County, VA, is a Senior year this year! It is his third year on the Residence Life team and his first as a Head Resident Advisor. He is a Business Administration and Economics double major. He is a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, a Maroon Ambassador, and works in the Admissions Office. In the Fall of 2013 he hopes to be enrolled in a graduate program for Higher Education Student Affairs. In his spare time he enjoys trying new foods, playing tennis or racquetball, watching any reality television show coming and going, and trying to soak up as much of Salem as possible before he has to leave! |

| Shapreka is a senior at Roanoke College. She is majoring in Biology with a concentration in Anthropology. Shapreka is from the Bahamas and is the youngest of five, with two brothers and two sisters. She also has 4 nieces and 1 nephew. She spent her high school years in NH attending boarding school. Shapreka loves to dance, try new foods, write and to read. One of her favorite parts of her week is volunteering at the Salem Rescue Squad. |

Ryan Feather is a senior at Roanoke College who is studying Health and Physical Education. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa and now resides in Bellefonte, Pa with his mom, dad, younger brother, and his dog. Ryan loves long walks on the beach, going on service trips like Habitat for Humanity, hiking, running, baseball, and all sports Pittsburgh sports teams. He is involved in several organizations on campus including InterVarsity where he is a worship team member playing drums and Catholic Campus Ministries where he serves as the Vice-President of Community service. |

| Brittany, originally from Buffalo NY, is going to be a senior this year. This will be here 3rd year on the residence life staff. She is a history major with two concentrations, one in Gender and Women Studies and the other in Legal Studies. She is very active on campus, working in many student service offices and is also a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. Next fall Brittany plans on attending Grad School for higher education and continue her passion for student affairs. |

| Chava is a rising senior at Roanoke College and will be graduating with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. She has been a member of the Residence Life Staff for over two years and is serving her second year as a Head Resident Advisor. Among her various campus activities, Chava enjoys spending time outside or at the beach with family and friends, playing the guitar, listening to music, and reading. She was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia. |
