Maroon Passport
The Maroon Passport, Roanoke College's student development transcript, offers Roanoke students an edge by fostering opportunities outside of the traditional classroom that enhance their academic experiences and position them for success in life and careers after graduation.
The program encourages students to participate in significant co-curricular activities in five designated areas that emphasize experiential learning and are highly valued at the College. This innovative program also helps distinguish our students' experiences and qualities from others by providing an official record of co-curricular accomplishments in the following themed areas:
![]() | Career Development Planning for the future is a developmental process that ideally begins for students in the freshman year. By completing workshops, participating in self-assessments, getting involved in summer jobs and internships, and conducting independent studies, students build experiences on which to seek professional positions and graduate school admissions. |
![]() | Global & Multicultural Awareness One of the hallmarks of a liberally educated person is a global perspective. Roanoke College students have access to over 200 study abroad programs in addition to many campus activities that encourage global and multicultural awareness. Matching curiosities about people from different backgrounds with deep engagement in the historically diverse cultures of the United States, the Roanoke College student learns to become an informed and effective global citizen. |
![]() | Leadership Roanoke seeks to prepare students to become responsible and influential leaders. Students are encouraged to be involved in areas of their particular interests and to develop new skills through leadership positions. Campus organizations and the Student Government Association offer many different options for students’ skills to flourish. Campus jobs and opportunities in the classroom are other ways students find to develop these skills. |
![]() | Research & Creativity Creativity is an innate gift possessed by every Roanoke College student. Students who exercise their creativity find that it grows and changes as they mature. Be it a work of art, a small process improvement or a breakthrough innovation, students’ creativity can benefit society, and the chance to apply that creativity in research projects is a great opportunity afforded to Roanoke students. At Roanoke College, students are encouraged to think critically and to use creative processes in an effort to bring about positive changes in their own lives and in the lives of others. |
![]() | Service Roanoke students often find that volunteerism and engagement in the community—whether on or off campus—is both enjoyable and rewarding. Roanoke students are urged to actively engage in the betterment of their communities—to contribute to the common good at Roanoke College, in the Roanoke Valley and beyond. An important aspect of service to others is the opportunity it provides for students to move beyond the bounds of the College into the larger community. |
