Roanoke College honors Harry Haskins with annual Charles Brown award
Roanoke College's thirteenth Charles Brown Award was bestowed upon Mr. Harry T. Haskins, Jr. during a ceremony on the Salem campus October 6.

Roanoke College professor and student collaborate on World War II book
Dr. Robert Schultz, Fishwick Professor of English, has co-authored a newly released book, We Were Pirates: A Torpedoman's Pacific War.

Roanoke College Celebrates Constitution Day with Justice Sandra Day O’Connor
O'Connor received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Roanoke College. She attended two classes and spoke to students. Dr. Todd Peppers hosted O'Connor in his Constitutional Law class, and she visited with Dr. Heath Brown's public policy students.

Bloss Named American Council on Education Fellow
Dr. Adrienne G. Bloss, associate dean for academic affairs and general education, has been selected as a Fellow for the American Council of Education (ACE) for the academic year of 2010-11.

Roanoke's own Dr. Chris Lee addresses the College community at opening convocation
Dr. Chris Lee, associate professor of mathematics and recipient of the 2009 Dean's Council Exemplary Teaching Award, was the speaker for Roanoke College's 2009 opening convocation ceremony.

Roanoke College named 2009 Campus of the Year!
Roanoke College was selected as the “2009 Campus of the Year” by Campus Activities Magazine and is featured in the magazine’s April edition. Roanoke was nominated because of the large number of social and academic programs available to students on campus.

Kuchar awarded Fulbright position in Ukraine
Dr. Martha Kuchar, professor of English, has been granted a Fulbright scholarship to Ukraine. She will teach at a university there during the spring 2010 semester and also will research Russian fiction written by women living in Ukraine.

Roanoke Upsets Washington & Lee, 3-2 in ODAC Quarterfinals
Roanoke climbed back from a 2-0 deficit to knock off #2 seed Washington & Lee, 3-2 in the ODAC Quarterfinals Friday evening. With the win, the Maroons improved to 14-16 on the year and will advance to the ODAC Semifinals. The Generals end their season at 19-14.

Roanoke Heads ODAC Preseason Women's Basketball Poll
Roanoke College picked up 10 first place votes and 120 total poll points to earn the top billing in the 2009-10 ODAC Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll. Randolph-Macon College garnered the remaining first place vote and 109 tallies to hold down the second slot.

Barrett studies shipwrecks for National Geographic
Michael Barrett '04 began researching the effect of shipwrecks on the environment during a semester abroad in Sydney, Australia. Three years later, he became the youngest person to ever receive a National Geographic grant to continue his work.

Career Services Launches New Service for Students and Alumni
Career Services has launched MaroonNet, an online site for the entire Roanoke College community and any employer who contacts Career Services with a job listing. MaroonNet helps job seekers find work and employers find employees through a network filled with the College’s classic connections.
