International Students

Below are some helpful instructions as you prepare your application to Roanoke. We are happy to answer your questions anytime during the admissions process. You may contact us at the Office of Admissions.

Submit Your Application

You have three application options available for submission.  November 30 is the final deadline for spring term.  April 15 is the final deadline for the fall term.

• The online application - no fee
• The Roanoke College Paper Application - $30 application fee
• The Common Application - no fee

Academic Transcripts and Records

Official transcripts and academic records should be sent directly to Roanoke College from all high schools/secondary schools and universities you have attended.  The transcripts should indicate all completed courses, the final grades received and any certificates or diplomas awarded. Transcripts, in a language other than English, should be accompanied by an official English translation. 

Freshman and transfer students wishing to be evaluated for college credit must submit their official university or college transcripts.  And, if possible, an academic catalogue with the description of the courses you have taken.  Students will potentially receive credit for comparable courses at Roanoke.    

Standardized Test Scores

Native English Speakers:
Students applying as freshmen will should submit their standardized test scores from at least one of the following examinations:

• SAT administered by the College Board (code: 5571)*
• ACT administered by ACT, Inc. (code: 4392)*
• National Examinations (official results must be sent from the country's examining body)

Official score reports for the SAT, ACT or National Examinations should be sent to the College directly from the administrator of the test.

*There may be an opportunity for students in the top 20% of their graduating high school class to make the SAT or ACT optional. For more information, contact the Office of Admissions.

Non-Native English Speakers:
At least one of the following examinations is required of all students, both freshmen and transfers whose native language is not English: 

• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) administered by 
               the Educational Testing Service
• IELTS (International English Language Test) jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations 
• SAT administered by the College Board

Financial Support Statement

All international applicants must send a bank-certified statement and/or other form of documentation indicating the annual resources available for their education, such as a letter of financial support. The statement should be sent with the application or supporting documents and is required for the issuance of an I-20 form.

Although optional, we strongly encourage you to submit an essay as an example of your writing ability. This may be included on your application under "additional information."
