College Bowl is an inter-collegiate competition of the mind! It's a quick response questions and answer format game that is played in teams. Each year, the College Bowl team sponsors a faculty vs. students tournament as well as a campus competition with prizes awarded to the winning teams. A team is selected to compete against other schools in a regional tournament. The RC College Bowl Team was the Region 5 Winner in 2002 and competed for the National Championship!
Health Professions Club
Students Interested in Health Careers was founded in 2005. Its purpose is "to work independently and with the Health Professions Advisory Group to sponsor activities and programs related to health, medicine, and the health professions and to foster a sense of camaraderie among students interested in the health professions."
Founded in 1875 by the college's first president, David F. Bittle, the Historical Society is the oldest student organization on campus. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to join. Contact any History Department faculty member in the Courthouse for further information.
The Honors Association is the "student arm" of the Honors Program curriculum at Roanoke College. The Association's activities include organizing Preliminary Enrichment Program events, a series of cultural and community service activities that are integral to the Honors curriculum. Additionally, the Association plans a week-long annual conference that invites the campus and the local community to consider a timely academic or social topic. The Association sponsors a variety of activities for Honors students and for all Roanoke College students as appropriate opportunities for doing so arise. All members of the Honors Program are considered members of this group and are thus involved in the student governance of Honors at Roanoke College.
The primary goal of the organization is to foster greater knowledge of United Nations' activities and international affairs. In addition, members attend simulations at other schools and may also sponsor their own simulations at Roanoke College. Such participation will expand awareness within the college community of international organizations, the United Nations in particular. Membership is open to any student.
The purpose of the Roanoke College Psychology Association is to encourage and stimulate interest in the area of psychology and to provide a forum where members can obtain information about the psychological field, serve Roanoke College and surrounding community, and meet others with similar interests.
