Alternative Breaks

Organized by our Student Leaders, these trips offer all students the opportunity to use their time off for the betterment of numerous communities across the country. Students are given the chance to not only serve these communities, but immerse themselves in the culture and become educated about the area they visit and its history.

Fall Break 2023

Sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement, the 2023 Alternative Fall Break will travel to Boone, N.C. for a combined service and outdoor adventure trip. Students will work with Habitat for Humanity during the week and on both weekends, the students will take in several outdoor adventure activities in the mountains of western North Carolina.

Previous Alternative Breaks have included:

  • work with the North Carolina Costal Federation in Kill Devil Hills, N.C.
  • a community development project in New York City
  • an environmental restoration project in West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.
