UPDATED: C. Homer Bast, a legend at Roanoke for his work in the classroom and on the track, passed away May 20. He was 98 years old. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem.

This summer, 14 Summer Scholars will do research ranging from observing bird populations at the Roanoke River to analyzing bilingual children's stories and assessing the impact of school nutrition polices in Palau.
