Nature and Culture in Japan
What is this travel course about?
This course explores the religions and literatures of Japan. By learning about nature-based religions such as Shinto and by visiting shrines and attending a Shinto festival, we will gain an enriching perspective for classical literature such as The Tale of Genji and Japanese poetry. Reading Taoist and Buddhist texts will help us understand the art and architecture of temples and rock gardens in Kyoto.
