Sustainability and Spirituality in the Pacific Northwest
What is this travel course about?
This course is about how to live well in our world. What can we learn from Seattle, a green city; what can we learn from Holden Village, an ecovillage? What can both locations teach us about the human spirit and how to thrive in a community?
Does this course fulfill any major/minor/concentration requirements?
It is cross-listed with ENST 277 so it can count as a major or minor credit in Environmental Studies. I also have an informal agreement from the religion department that it can count as major or minor credit for religion, but you should probably double-check with an advisor before counting on this.
Are there prerequisites for this travel course?
No, but students should expect two weeks without internet and phone service and a few easy hikes in the Cascade Mountains
Where will we go?
Seattle, Washington; Chelan, Washington; and Holden Village, also in Washington
What are the dates of the travel course?
May 13 - June 1, 2024 - first in Holden Village, then in Seattle
How much is the program fee?
$3,650
What costs are covered in my program fee?
Airfare from Washington, D.C., Lodging, Entrance Fees, Room & Board in Holden Village
What other costs should I prepare for beyond my program fee?
Students will cover most of their meals in Seattle (3-4 days) and on flight days (to and from Seattle). We will cover some entrance fees in Seattle but students will also have optional trips to museums etc. for which they should bring some cash. Students are also encouraged to bring about $50 to spend on incidentals at Holden Village (craft supplies, snacks, etc.).
Are there scholarships available for this travel course?
There is limited financial support for this travel course.
