Coronavirus COVID19 update for March 10, 2020
March 10, 2020
Roanoke College is monitoring circumstances related to the national and international spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. The College is taking precautions to keep the campus community safe and healthy.
May Term class to Italy canceled
The May Term course to Italy has unfortunately been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak in Italy and the current restrictions to travel in that country. Students enrolled in this class have been informed of the change.
Elderscholar program postponed
Out of an abundance of caution, Elderscholar spring lectures will be postponed beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11 through Wednesday, March 18, (all of next week) after which point continuing will be reevaluated. We are taking this precaution because older adults have been identified as at higher-risk for COVID-19, and given a recommendation to avoid crowds. The CDC offers the following recommendations for high risk populations. More details on the Elderscholar page.
Personal Container Refills Suspended
Due to the COVID-19 virus, Dining Services is suspending the use of personal beverage containers from being refilled in all campus Dining Service locations. While we appreciate your efforts to become more sustainable with these containers, the health and safety of the campus community is of our upmost concern. Once this virus is no longer a concern, we will resume our normal practices. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Roanoke College Events
As we continue to monitor Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) circumstances, Roanoke College will determine event cancellations, or event modifications, on a case-by-case basis. While some events on Roanoke’s campus may be canceled due to a variety of factors, others will continue. Updates will be posted to this page.
Individuals who fall into the high-risk category should take precautions when attending crowded events. If you are unsure whether to attend events, consult the CDC's website for the most current recommendations.
Stay healthy, Maroons!
